In Camera Multiple Exposure, Liquid Silver emulsion on watercolour paper
This photograph is inspired by a local legend about St. Hilda’s Church and the crofters of Hartlepool. When a new vicar complained of the church’s proximity to the sea and the bitter winds, the crofters decided to help. Believing their combined strength could move the church, they laid their coats on the ground and pushed with all their might.
After half an hour, they admitted defeat and headed to the pub, forgetting their coats. Upon returning, they found them gone.
Honest to the core, the crofters couldn’t believe anyone had stolen them and decided they'd must moved the church after all,
leaving their coats buried beneath it.
