Steetley Pier, built in the 1960s, once played a vital role in local industry. Extending over 2,000 feet into the North Sea, the pier was crucial for the Steetley Magnesia Works, which produced magnesia used in steelmaking. The plant was particularly important during World War 2 and the post-war years, as it was the UK's sole magnesia supplier.
As industry has faded, the decaying pier now stands as a striking reminder of the town's industrial heritage. In its abandonment, it has also become a nesting haven for seabirds, illustrating nature's slow reclamation of what was once an industrial powerhouse.
