Alarna is a second-year student at the Northern School of Art, specializing in digital art, and sometimes combining traditional art into her artwork. She is honing her skills with a distinctive artistic style that merges fantasy elements with relatable themes. With a background in photography and fine art, Alarna tries to incorporate cinematic quality into her illustrations, effectively portraying surreal moods and bringing her characters to life.

Her artwork features vibrant colours, intricate details, and dynamic compositions that invite viewers into whimsical worlds rich in charm and emotional depth. Alarna often explores themes such as self-expression, nostalgia, and storytelling, resulting in illustrations that depict characters in settings that balance both

realism and dreamlike qualities. Her scenes range from neon-lit urban landscapes to intense close-ups that capture the essence of her characters’ emotions, reflecting her interest in the relationship between reality and fantasy.

At the Northern School of Art, Alarna has the opportunity to experiment with her creativity and refine her digital skills. She actively seeks to push the limits of digital illustration, creating works that convey complete narratives. Her goal is to produce visuals that resonate with viewers, inspiring a sense of wonder in everyday experiences.

Demi is an illustrator based in Seaham, in the North East of England. Demi is an artist who has had a strong interest in realism since she was young. She focuses on honing her technical drawing skills and improving aspects of realism within her practice. Demi occasionally pushes out of her comfort zone and experiments with styles, however she will always come back to realism.

When creating work, Demi uses a range of mediums which include; graphite pencils, coloured pencils, oil paints, and has recently found a love for digital art after strictly using traditional mediums all of her life.

Demi is currently studying BA (Hons) Illustration for Commercial Application at The Northern School of Art and is in her second year. Prior to this, Demi studied Fine Art at NSoA’s Middlesborough campus. After graduating, Demi hopes to cultivate a career as a tattoo artist.

I am an illustrator working at the Northern School of Art University, based in Hartlepool, who enjoys working in both digital and traditional mediums. Experimentation is still a key aspect of my creative practice, and I am working to hone my personal style as an artist. The illustrations I find most fun to create tend to be dark, obscure fantasy characters and environments, these themes have influenced my personal style recently. I take inspiration from artists such as Tim Burton, as the sketchy and odd, sometimes sinister details are something I personally find myself using too. Another medium I have enjoyed experimenting with is relief printing on my current course; particularly exploring the practical aspects of lino-printing. The style I use translates well with this medium as it has scratchy and odd line markings that I like. Down the line I hope to create a freelance career working with a range of clients.

I’m Joey, an illustrator based in the Northeast of England. I am deeply interested in exploring difficult subjects and challenging people’s perspectives.

I primarily work digitally, replicating the texture of paints. Inspired by the distinctive visual style of the Impressionist movement, I’d describe my style as rough and painterly as I like to leave marks and brushstrokes to leave a trace of my process. I like to create pieces that are bold and vivid, often

juxtaposing intense colours with dark and thought-provoking themes. I’m proudly an existential thinker, always diving into life’s bigger questions; using my canvas as a space to give voice to the things we don’t often talk about.

Looking ahead, I aim to explore different illustrative forms professionally and personally that allow me to express and process the challenging aspects of life. Through my work, I hope to create a space for others to connect, question and find resonance.

Joshua is a Stockton on Tees and Hartlepool based artist. He’s primarily focused on creating characters/portraits and landscapes digitally but also incorporates traditional media into his illustration practice.

Engaging storylines and interesting narrative concepts in manga, graphic novels and comics have always been an influence in Joshua’s work. The thought of creating his own world and characters is a driving factor in his artwork.

Joshua is inspired by illustration that invites the viewer to take a second look, in order to notice the smaller details. A current inspiration for him is a digital artist by the name of Philip Sue and his conceptual landscapes; he has a great sense of light and colour as well as natural form. Joshua is studying Sue’s work to gain a better understanding of visualising light and landscapes in his own work.

A large motivation for Joshua is narrative storytelling, and he is currently researching both anatomy and landscapes to develop his own technical skill in order to tell stories through his artwork. He likes to switch between semi-realism and more abstract pieces depending on the subject matter but isn’t afraid to experiment with other styles in the pursuit of improvement.

Ky is a student at The Northern School of Art, currently working towards a BA (Hons) Illustration for Commercial Application degree. She works primarily in digital mediums as a character designer, creating a unique art style with exaggerated proportions and bold shadows. She aims to be able to create and tell stories by developing comics and narrative illustrations.

Her work consists of ‘other worlds’ and fantastical storylines, often taking a romantic turn. She has an interest in fashion, which prompts a diverse and eclectic range of character designs. Representation is a big consideration of her work – for example, the concepts of girlhood and feminine friendships are themes that run through Ky’s illustrative work, with an aim to showcase the importance of these friendships and relationships in a realistic and nostalgic way.

I am a Lithuanian illustrator based in England, and currently studying in the Northern School of Art. I predominantly prefer to work traditionally, leaning towards watercolour as well as black and white pencil sketches. I’ve worked digitally as well, typically changing style depending on the project I’m working on; however, I tend to lean towards imitating the traditional look of pencil sketching, or paint.

My influences come from all over; leaning towards fantasy and folklore – favouring the eastern European and Japanese myths and stories. I am also interested in anime, manga and DC comics/media so a lot of inspiration comes from there as well. I tend to gain a lot of inspiration and motivation from artists I follow on Instagram, who have diverse and interesting art styles and outcomes.

I’m currently exploring different illustrative options for my future career. Narratology, book cover art seems like a fun and interesting route to go down.

My name is Lu and I’m a maximalist illustrator who experiments with saturations and textures. I enjoy working with both digital and analogue art mediums. My art is inspired by the Surrealism and Maximalist movements, I enjoy experimenting with patterns and textures to create designs that are very unique and original. I am also influenced by the music scene and the design work for album cover designs and gig posters.

I currently work as a Graphic Designer within the Student Union at The Northern School of Art. My

art has also been showcased in a local art collective called Flower Shop, where my art was exhibited for an evening along with other creatives from across Newcastle. I am always open for any type of artist callout that I think my style would be suitable for.

In the future I hope to get into advertising illustration and design with a focus on advertising and promoting a diverse range of things, such as music, political views or even brands!

I’m a Lithuanian artist based in England, currently studying a degree in illustration at The Northern School of Art. My work is predominantly in traditional media as I prefer to work with acrylic, gouache paint and standard pencils. Most of my work has been influenced or inspired by the media I consume on a daily basis, for example: a range of manga and anime styles; steam punk styles similar to the artwork shown in Netflix’s Arcane.

As a student illustrator, I am beginning to gain a deeper understanding of what I’m working towards as an artist. I have an interest in costume/fashion design, having also previously done Art & Design Textiles in sixth form where I had the chance to develop these ideas and interests

My name is Lucy and I’m an illustrator originally from Leeds, but currently studying in my second year of BA (Hons) Illustration for Commercial Application at The Northern School of Art. I have a love for printmaking; particularly the screen-printing process. I also enjoy painting with acrylics and making work digitally.

I am very much interested in all things horror and dark and would love to continue this in more of my upcoming projects. I incorporate many styles in my work, as I really enjoy experimenting and exploring different themes and materials. I enjoy exploring telling stories with illustration and have been inspired by artists such as Edward Hopper in the past, as I feel it is easy to create narratives around the characters depicted in his work.

As an illustrator, I initially start with sketching or inks to build from or take the path of acrylics for more rendered traditional works. I then take my work onto the computer and primarily utilise digital mediums, building up works either with a more painterly style or refining dynamic shapes for a more graphic look. Being inspired by a plethora of sources, ranging from fine art, to film, this pushes me to then explore a range of subject matter and styles, such as more painterly oriented and also more graphic styles, founded in the wide range of influences that synthesise to create my personal interests. I hope to explore creative avenues such as editorial and concept work to capture my varied interests in anything from more fantastical subject matter to more grounded and focused illustrations. I am passionate about

Hello! My name is Laura, but I go by Slumber online and as an artist. I enjoy combining cute, spooky, creepy, and silly elements into one chaotic but somewhat comforting reflection of day to day life, only a little bit more fun! Freakish monsters supporting a local charity raffle, ghosts earning a degree in law, a couple of friends giving a hot chocolate to the resident harbour monster on a rainy day… oddity meets mundanity.

I’m a digital artist, with Procreate being my main program of choice. I love incorporating textures into my art; rough pencil, cloudy watercolour, and grungy paint strokes being my favourites. My art is typically quite cartoony, because, hey; some emotions can only be properly conveyed by breaking the rules of reality, y’know?

My most recent personal project was my PokéPride collection; 21 different sticker designs of Pokémon holding pride flags that match their colour schemes! I plan on setting up a shop in order to sell them next year, but for now you can view the whole collection on my social media page: https://bsky.app/profile/thetownnarcoleptic.bsky.social
